| Alpine History...
In 1983, Greg and Melody Carlston established Alpine Food Distributing, Inc. to purchase and redistribute food products in the Portland Metro area. At that time, there was only one employee. Our warehouse was approximately 2,000 square feet, 1,500 of which was freezer and we had no coolers. Our major product line was french fries. We eventually expanded to about 8,000 square feet, with 3,000 square feet of freezers, and added three additional employees. In 1987, we moved to our second location that was nearly double in size at 15,000 square feet, 5,000 of which was freezer. We had a very small cooler as well. Two years later our building burned to the ground including its contents. The offices were spared, but we had to completely rebuild at the same location while operating from several locations for nearly a year. In 1990, we opened a Seattle sales office. In 1995, we moved to our current location at 4901 SE 24th Street on Portland's east side. At this location we have approximately 95,000 square feet of warehousing, 7,000 square feet of office, 40,000 square feet of freezer, and 7,000 square feet of coolers. As of December 2004, we employ approximately 40 people. In December 1999, Alpine Food Distributing started DBA Company Alpine Carriers for outside freight hauling. In January 2002, we added 26,000 additional square feet (16,000 freezer storage and 10,000 dry storage). In 1983, our sales area was in Oregon only. We are now in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska and Northern California. |
